Microneedling for Portaferry and County Down
People travel to NUA Aesthetic from Portaferry for microneedling because the clinic is deliberately small. One nurse, one room, and appointments that are not stacked back to back.
The treatment itself: controlled micro-channels created with an FDA-cleared medical device, triggering a natural healing response that rebuilds collagen and refines texture. What that means in practice is discussed at your consultation, in plain terms.
NUA operates by appointment only from a private studio in Carryduff. For Portaferry clients that means a calm, discreet setting rather than a busy clinic, and an address shared on confirmation.
Why Portaferry clients choose NUA
Treatments are carried out in a private home studio rather than a clinic floor, which most Portaferry clients say is the part they did not expect to value. There is no reception, no overlap with other appointments, and no rush at the end.
What Microneedling involves
Consultation and prep
Skin is assessed and cleansed, and a topical numbing cream is applied for around twenty minutes before treatment begins.
Treatment
The 1NEEDPRO is passed across the treatment area at a depth chosen for each zone. The treatment itself takes around thirty minutes.
The course
Three treatments spaced four weeks apart. Collagen remodelling is a slow process, so results continue building between sessions.
Maintenance
Most people maintain with a single session every four to six months once the initial course is complete.
Who it suits
- Uneven skin texture and roughness
- Acne scarring and post-inflammatory marking
- Enlarged or congested pores
- Fine lines and early signs of ageing
- Sun damage and uneven tone
- Stretch marks on the body
Questions Portaferry clients ask about microneedling
Can it be used on areas other than the face?
Yes. The neck, decolletage and stretch marks on the body all respond well. Treatment area is agreed at consultation.
How is this different from a home derma roller?
Substantially. A medical device controls needle depth precisely and uses sterile single-use surgical-grade needles. Home rollers tear the skin rather than creating clean channels, cannot control depth, and carry a real infection risk.
Is microneedling suitable if I have active acne?
Not over actively inflamed or pustular areas, as it can spread bacteria. It is excellent for the scarring left behind once acne is under control. Lauren will assess and may suggest treating the acne first.
What if microneedling is not right for me?
Then Lauren will say so at the consultation and talk through what would suit your skin better. Being told no is a reasonable outcome of an honest assessment, and it happens regularly.
Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?
Yes. It combines excellently with polynucleotides, skin boosters, chemical peels and medical-grade skincare. Adding Calecim exosomes during the treatment amplifies the regenerative response considerably.
Can I wear make-up afterwards?
Not for 24 hours. The micro-channels need time to close, and applying make-up before then risks irritation and infection. Most people book treatments for a day when that is easy to manage.
Do I need a consultation before microneedling?
Yes. Every treatment includes a consultation so Lauren can assess your skin and confirm the plan is right for you. It is included in the appointment rather than charged separately.
Who will carry out my treatment?
Lauren, every time. She is an NMC registered nurse and CIDESCO qualified skin specialist. There is no rotating team, so Portaferry clients see the same practitioner from consultation through to review.
What are the appointment times like?
NUA runs by appointment only with flexible scheduling, including times outside standard working hours. That tends to suit clients travelling from Portaferry who would rather not take time off work.
When will I see results?
Skin looks brighter within about a week, but the real change comes from collagen remodelling, which takes four to six weeks per session and continues improving across the course.
Is there any downtime?
Redness for 24 to 48 hours, similar to mild sunburn. Aftercare guidance is given at the appointment, and Lauren is contactable afterwards if anything concerns you.
