Microneedling has a reputation problem, largely because the results depend enormously on the device and the hands using it. A home roller and a medical-grade pen are not the same treatment.

NUA uses the 1NEEDPRO, an FDA-cleared medical device with surgical-grade needles and a patented anti-contamination system. Depth is controlled precisely, which is what allows the treatment to be adjusted across different areas of the same face.

The principle is simple. Thousands of controlled micro-channels trigger the body's natural wound-healing response, which rebuilds collagen and elastin. Texture, fine lines, pore size and acne scarring all improve as that process runs.

What happens

  1. Consultation and prep

    Skin is assessed and cleansed, and a topical numbing cream is applied for around twenty minutes before treatment begins.

  2. Treatment

    The 1NEEDPRO is passed across the treatment area at a depth chosen for each zone. The treatment itself takes around thirty minutes.

  3. The course

    Three treatments spaced four weeks apart. Collagen remodelling is a slow process, so results continue building between sessions.

  4. Maintenance

    Most people maintain with a single session every four to six months once the initial course is complete.

Aftercare

  • Expect redness similar to mild sunburn for 24 to 48 hours
  • No make-up for 24 hours while the micro-channels close
  • Daily SPF is essential, skin is more sun-sensitive for a week
  • Avoid active skincare such as retinoids and acids for five days
  • Do not pick or exfoliate any light flaking, let it resolve on its own

What exactly does microneedling do?

It creates tiny controlled micro-injuries in the skin using the FDA-cleared 1NEEDPRO device. This triggers your body's natural healing response, stimulating collagen production, improving texture, boosting hydration and enhancing overall skin quality.

How many treatments will I need?

Most people benefit from a course of three treatments spaced about four weeks apart, depending on skin concerns and goals. Lauren will recommend a personalised plan at your consultation.

Is there downtime and how long do results last?

Downtime is minimal. Expect redness for 24 to 48 hours, similar to mild sunburn. Results build gradually over several weeks as collagen remodels, and last several months with maintenance every four to six months.

Is microneedling safe for all skin types?

Yes, microneedling is generally safe across all skin types when performed with professional equipment. NUA uses the FDA-approved 1NEEDPRO device with surgical-grade needles and a patented anti-contamination system.

Does microneedling hurt?

A topical numbing cream is applied for around twenty minutes beforehand, which makes the treatment very tolerable. Most people describe a light vibrating or scratching sensation rather than pain.

Will it help with acne scarring?

Yes, it is one of the most effective non-surgical options for rolling and boxcar acne scars. Improvement is gradual and usually needs a full course, but the change in scar depth and skin texture can be significant.

Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?

Yes. It combines excellently with polynucleotides, skin boosters, chemical peels and medical-grade skincare. Adding Calecim exosomes during the treatment amplifies the regenerative response considerably.

How is this different from a home derma roller?

Substantially. A medical device controls needle depth precisely and uses sterile single-use surgical-grade needles. Home rollers tear the skin rather than creating clean channels, cannot control depth, and carry a real infection risk.

When will I see results?

Skin looks brighter within about a week, but the real change comes from collagen remodelling, which takes four to six weeks per session and continues improving across the course.

Can I wear make-up afterwards?

Not for 24 hours. The micro-channels need time to close, and applying make-up before then risks irritation and infection. Most people book treatments for a day when that is easy to manage.

Is microneedling suitable if I have active acne?

Not over actively inflamed or pustular areas, as it can spread bacteria. It is excellent for the scarring left behind once acne is under control. Lauren will assess and may suggest treating the acne first.

Can it be used on areas other than the face?

Yes. The neck, decolletage and stretch marks on the body all respond well. Treatment area is agreed at consultation.
